The North East Centre for Environmental Education and Research (NECEER), Imphal will be organizing a youth summit titled Enviro Youth Summit of Manipur on 16th January 2011. The aim of the summit is to encourage students on public speaking and to generate awareness about the environmental issues being faced by the state.

The event will create leadership qualities among the students, inculcate management skills and cultivate the culture to work in a team. The first-of-its-kind youth summit in the state will be held at Lamyanba Shanglen, Palace Compound, Imphal. The event is planned to be organised in all the districts of Manipur in a phase wise manner.

According to the summit plan, students will participate in different categories and will talk on different environmental issues and biodiversity of the state. An On the Spot Photography Contest will also be organised where contestants will click photographs in and around Imphal city on two main themes – 1) Landscape and 2) Environment and Human.

Prominent environmentalist, academicians and media personalities will judge both the seminar and photography contest. The Youth Summit is part of the NECEER, Imphal’s participation in the celebration of the United Nations International Year of Youth 2010-11 and International Year of Forests 2011. NECEER, Imphal is the only official partner of UN International Year of Biodiversity from Northeast India.
