North East has an abundance of natural and human resources. However, inadequate exposure to opportunities and infrastructural connectivity issues have hindered the growth process of the region. To unleash the huge growth potential that the Region holds, it is imperative to link the Region to the mainstream markets and expose them to the plethora of opportunities that exist.

With this as the backdrop, the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) started working as a key player in the North East Region (NER) eight years ago. The objective was to catalyze development in potential sectors. Since then, CII has taken a wide range of initiatives in the area of investment promotion, development of infrastructure, promoting market linkages, showcasing handloom and handicraft products, skill development, capacity building and many others.

CII is now organising a high profile conference involving key stakeholders of the Rubber Industry to identify investment opportunities in this sector in Tripura. Key issues like how to leverage policies and related incentives specially designed for the North Eastern Region (NER) will also be discussed. The “CII Tripura Rubber Convention 2011” is a convention cum exhibition being organised as a unique platform for Investment Opportunities and Intermediate Technologies.

Date: 24-25 February, 2011
Venue: Children’s Park Ground; Agartala, Tripura

Rubber was first introduced in Tripura in 1963 and since then, the production of Rubber has increased exponentially making the State the second largest producer of Rubber after Kerala. With an abundance of land suitable for high quality rubber production, cheap skilled labour, developed primary infrastructure and Government incentives, the Rubber industry in Tripura should grow manifold. The prospects have enhanced further due to the recent agreements on access to parts of India through Bangladesh via road and sea route.

Recognizing the range of opportunities existing amidst this sector, the Government is taking keen initiatives. The Tripura Industrial Rubber Park (TIRP), the first of its kind in Tripura, has been setup with an aim to facilitate value addition to natural rubber grown in the State and to tap the export markets of  Bangladesh, Myanmar and other South Asian countries. It is against this backdrop that CII is organizing the “Tripura Rubber Convention, a conference cum exhibition from 24th to 25th February, 2011 at the Children’s Park,  Agartala, Tripura.
