The Press Information Bureau, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Government of India has developed the concept of Bharat Nirman Public Information Campaign, a media outreach strategy to disseminate information to the targeted beneficiaries focusing on the flagship programmes of the Govt. of India.

This strategy combines information dissemination and demonstration of the benefits at the doorstep of the beneficiaries, particularly in rural areas. The Campaign is designed as a more inclusive tool of information dissemination and envisages direct contact with the Aam Aadmi and empower citizens particularly from rural areas with knowledge of the flagship programmes so that they can avail the advantages of these programmes to improve the quality of their life.

Students, ICDS workers, SHG members and others carrying placards displaying messages of flagship programmes in a public rally at the inauguration of Bharat Nirman Public Information Campaign, organized by Press Information Bureau, at Kadamtala, North Tripura on December 30, 2010.

The entire campaign is a three day affair (Information Mela/Camp) organized at a rural venue particularly in a Minority Dominated Area/ Naxalite affected Area/Border Area/ SC-ST Dominated Area or other backward areas. Pre-publicity of the event is done 5 days prior to the day of the event using local media and region specific communication tools.

The ultimate idea is to make people aware about welfare schemes of the Government and how these can be used to bring about an overall development in the country. The campaign is very much required and is doing good in Northeast India and will hopefully bring about a social and green change in the region.
