According to WWF-India, six young volunteers, including three women, were abducted on Sunday, 6th February 2011 while conducting field monitoring for the All India Tiger Estimation Project in Chirang Forest Division of Western Assam. Three of the abducted women volunteers were released two days later.

A conference titled “The Future of the Bengal Tiger” was recently held in the capital city of Delhi. The event witnessed around 150 delegates, speakers and other participants from all walks of life. The Government of India (GoI) has sanctioned funds towards the continuance of the  ‘Project Tiger’ Scheme in three tiger reserves of Assam. These are Nameri, Kaziranga and Manas Tiger Reserve. The funds released is the first installment of the conservation funds and is to be utilized according to the agreement signed at Dispur last year. [...]
